Next to Formula 1 and DTM, a third segment has been significantly contributing to the great Mercedes-AMG Motorsport on-track achievements: the global Customer Racing program.
In 2010 this new era was ushered in with the presentation of the SLS AMG GT3, the first Customer Sports vehicle in the history of Mercedes-Benz. Since its very first lap the competition gullwing caused excitement all over the world and scored great achievements for the Customer Sport teams. The track record of the 2013 season with victories in all major endurance races for GT3 cars – the Bathurst and Abu Dhabi twelve-hour races and the 24-hour races in Dubai, at the Nürburgring, Spa and Barcelona – was one of historic proportions.
In 2016, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 started a new chapter in the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Sports involvement. Just like its predecessor, the SLS AMG GT3, the new race car stands out with a benchmark-setting safety level combined with a new maximum performance and reliability. With a car that was fully technically matured, it didn’t take long for the success to arrive: the historic quadruple victory in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring was a perfect debut. The start of a new chapter of success, with more to come!
Behind the sporting success, there is a comprehensive Customer Racing program that, just like the cars, is constantly being developed. The key philosophy is the quick and professional support for the teams with the aim of contributing to the biggest possible joint success by means of technology, know-how and manpower.
