Motorsport and Mercedes-AMG – sure, that’s Formula 1 and the DTM. True enough. But that is by no means everything. The motorsport heritage from Affalterbach with historic victories and legendary successes has for several years had another strong pillar: Customer Sports. In contrast to the company’s commitment in Formula 1 and the DTM, here everything hinges on the motor sports activities of Mercedes-AMG’s customers.
In 2010 this new era was ushered in with the presentation of the SLS AMG GT3, the first Customer Sports vehicle in the history of Mercedes-Benz. Since its very first lap the gullwing for the race track was a huge sensation – and was really in demand, too: more than 75 of these super sports cars are now competing in races throughout the world. AMG Customer Sport Teams with their gullwings from Affalterbach are now celebrating sporting triumphs at the ADAC GT Masters, VLN, Blancpain Endurance Series, Asian LeMans Series, Australian GT, Pirelli World Challenge, GT Open and many other GT series.
With its SLS AMG GT3, Mercedes-AMG has set standards in many areas. It combines a trailblazing safety standard with maximum performance and reliability. Weekend after weekend its performance bears witness to this: since 2011, the first full season it competed, up to now 44 Customer Sport Teams have started 1,400 races in the SLS AMG GT3. And they have already won 140 races and claimed twelve championship titles (as of July 2014).
Amongst all this success, the 2013 season has now already taken on a historic dimension: last year the AMG Customer Sport Teams celebrated victories in all important endurance races for GT3 vehicles – including the 12-hour races of Bathurst and Abu Dhabi as well as the 24-hour races in Dubai, Nürburgring, Spa and Barcelona. In 2014 the AMG Customer Sport Teams have also already been successful in numerous endurance races – including two places on the podium at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring. The marathon over the notorious “Nordschleife” is one of the most demanding challenges in motorsport.
To enable such successes, a Customer Sports Program was also developed together with the SLS AMG GT3. And just like everything that bears the name AMG, the performance aspect is also the center of attention. And in terms of the program, this means maximum support! Service is writ large – with all AMG Customer Sport Teams receiving quick and professional support – no matter whether they are small or big and whether they are in Germany or the rest of the world. The aim is to provide the biggest contribution towards the success of AMG Customer Sport Teams through technology, know-how and manpower. Because the bottom line is: when customers win, these are victories for AMG!
Consequently there is broad-based support. This ranges from comprehensive instructions and local commissioning of the vehicle through the on-site service via the spare parts truck and support engineers at the race circuit, right through to the interactive AMG Customer Sports Portal, an online shop specialized in spare parts for motorsports. The support also includes the place behind the steering wheel: for their races all teams can strengthen themselves with an experienced pilot from the AMG driver pool, which, amongst others, includes the five times DTM Champion Bernd Schneider or the former Formula 1 professional Karl Wendlinger. Support can hardly get any better.
