Australian model Jess Hart settled in the U.S. early in her career and now calls Los Angeles her home. Having explored every nook and cranny of the sprawling metro, Jess reveals her favorite spots.
“For me, the freedom of driving is such an integral part of the LA experience. Before moving here, I had this preconceived idea that it was a superficial place, I didn’t think there was very much depth or culture and everything was a little bit make-believe. But driving in the city has been really liberating, it’s allowed me to explore the different districts and neighborhoods, and to discover the real Los Angeles. In a vast city of endless options, you have to put in the time and effort to get to know it and really understand it.
Over the years, I’ve gotten to know the city through its roads, to understand its intricacies and complexities, and found the people and places that make it feel like home. FLOWER DISTRICT
Fresh flowers are a real luxury and I love having them in our home. It’s important for me to set the vibe in our space and the textures and colors of flowers are a part of that, to me they are art and I find the process of selecting and arranging them really meditative.
There is no better place to start the day than wandering through the vendors in LA’s Flower District. Visiting is such a sensory explosion of scent and color – not only can you find the freshest florals, but there is every variety of flower you could possibly imagine. There is so much life and soul to the area and getting to see all these people come together around flowers is so beautiful.

GOOD ART HLYWD
Jewelry is a big part of my own personality, and also something that I love gifting to those closest to me. It’s almost like an armor or an extension of myself, so I’m very selective and will only buy and wear pieces that I know will be treasured and passed down for generations to come.
One of my favorite designers in the city is Good Art. Josh Warner, the founder, has such a unique way of turning an everyday object into a beautiful and wearable piece of art. At their studio adjacent to Downtown Los Angeles, I love watching the pieces come to life, from the initial designs to the foundry process. You get to see all of the love and craftsmanship that is poured into each piece, binding the artist and the jewelry together. There is something really powerful about getting to know a brand’s story in that way, and it makes wearing and gifting their designs that much more meaningful. Knowing the hands that made something, I believe that you carry a little bit of their energy and soul with you when you wear it.

LECHUZA BEACH
The city has an always-on pace and I can start feeling quite restless and lost if I don’t take the time to be in nature. That’s when I head to the ocean to reconnect and find balance. We’re incredibly lucky in LA, bordered by one of the most beautiful stretches of California coastline.
Finding a quiet beach in LA isn’t always easy, so we usually escape the city and head out north on PCH towards Malibu’s shores. Lechuza Beach is off the beaten track, you have to get your past these incredible homes to get to the water. And it’s worth every bit of effort, it’s one of the most beautiful spots in the city and somedays it feels like you have the place to yourself.

GREAT WHITE VENICE
We are so lucky with the food culture in LA, there is everything you could ever want and it’s a really creative culinary scene. I actually only became vegan once I moved out here, it was an easy decision because the city really caters to it and there is an abundance of plant-based options.
Venice Beach is such an iconic LA location, from the Venice sign to its boardwalk and skatepark. It’s a vibey neighborhood full of color and character. Among all the hustle and bustle, Great White is an Aussie-run café that offers a sense of calm and retreat. It’s one of our favorite restaurants in the city. Their menu is seasonal and creative, and they focus on using organic, locally grown ingredients which is important to me. The diverse options make it a perfect destination for me and my friends.
