The Mercedes-AMG 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo engine with cylinder deactivation offers a stunning combination of explosive power development and finely controlled power output. With an output of 450 kW (612 HP) and torque of 900 Nm, it exceeds its predecessor model by exactly 20 kW (27 HP).

The twin-scroll turbochargers are positioned for improved response behavior between the cylinder heads (“hot V”). Cylinder deactivation under reduced loads also provides greater efficiency.

With 9 gears plus RACE START and double-clutch function, this gearbox offers extremely dynamic acceleration maneuvers and the shortest shift times, as well as a fuel-saving driving style.

The ongoing development of hardware and software has resulted in further response time optimizations. Now shift commands from the driver can be implemented faster than ever before. A further strength of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G-transmission is its exceptionally fast and spontaneous multiple downshift ability. The driver can thus shift directly from 9th to 6th gear or from 5th to 2nd, for example by kick-down.

The five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programs - “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “Individual” and “RACE” - modify parameters such as the response behavior of the engine, gearbox, chassis, steering, ESP®, and 4-wheel drive. The driver thus has extensive control over the characteristics of the AMG S 63 4MATIC+.

The dynamic character of the car is underlined by additional functions such as RACE START, emotive shifting with reduced shift times, and a double-clutch function when downshifting.

The performance-oriented 4-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution between front and rear axles combines the best possible traction, typical AMG driving dynamics, and a high level of driving pleasure. It also increases driving safety and adhesion to wet or wintry surfaces.

With fully variable torque distribution, the driver profits from the advantages of both 4-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive in equal measure. An electronically controlled clutch links the constantly-driven rear axle with the variable front axle. The best possible torque distribution is computed constantly, to suit the driving situation and the driver's wishes.

In the AMG S 63 4MATIC+ Coupé, the AMG sports chassis is combined with AMG RIDE CONTROL + suspension, featuring adaptive damping. The driver can selection the damping effect from between the “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus” levels – between relaxed comfort for long-distance routes and a dynamic sports response.

Rebound and compression damping are adjusted independently, which allows optimal adaptation to the driving status and road conditions. The freely programmable characteristics also allow a wide spread between minimum and maximum damping force.

A perfect addition is AMG's electromechanical sports parameter steering with variable steering ratio. This increases the handling and agility of the car significantly.

Depending on the chassis setting chosen, the steering characteristic is adapted to either a sport or comfort steering feel. At low speeds, the driver doesn’t have to steer much. At higher speeds, they can count on a solid directional stability.
