The new Mercedes-AMG E 53 4MATIC+ is a true Mercedes-AMG vehicle both visually and technically. The characteristic Mercedes-AMG model designation comprising two digits highlights the fact that it belongs to the AMG portfolio. The new 3.0-litre 6-cylinder inline engine rated at 320 kW (435 hp) and 520 Nm combines exhaust gas turbocharger, additional electrical compressor plus a 48 V on-board electrical system. Its EQ Boost starter-alternator generator temporarily delivers an additional 16 kW of output and 250 Nm of torque. The AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable power distribution plus further technical highlights bring a high degree of hallmark AMG Driving Performance.

Dynamic design features characterise the exclusivity of the Mercedes-AMG exterior. These include the eye-catching AMG bodystyling with specific AMG front and rear aprons, and AMG light-alloy wheels with mixed-size tires.

Mercedes-AMG E 63: 

Defining features of the signature AMG front with pronounced V-shape are the inserted AMG hood with powerdomes, the AMG front apron in Jet Wing design and the AMG radiator grille with twin louvre in silver chrome, vertical black struts and "AMG" lettering. AMG radiator grille and AMG front apron feature air inlets devoid of grilles to open up the third dimension and reveal the sophisticated cooling technology that lies within.

Mercedes-AMG E 63 S: 

The front splitter in silver chrome visually distinguishes the S-Model front from the E 63. AMG Performance Steering Wheel

For outstanding vehicle control, the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather features a flattened bottom section as well as perforated grip areas. The sporty design is completed by silver-colored aluminum shift paddles and a 12-o'clock marking. As an optional extra, the driver can decide for the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfiber. For an even better grip during sporty manoeuvres, the grip area on the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather is finished in DINAMICA microfiber.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT

With the selected transmission mode, parameters such as the characteristics of the engine, transmission, suspension, ESP® and steering are changed, resulting in an even sportier vehicle setup: more agile accelerator pedal characteristics with a more direct setup, shorter shift times and significantly more emotional gear changes. The dynamic characteristics of the vehicle are supported by additional functions such as a double-clutching function, cylinder shut-off, active downshifting and quick acceleration from rest in "Sport" and "Sport+" mode. The last selected transmission mode remains active for 4 hours after switching off the vehicle, after which the standard settings of the balanced and fuel-efficient "Comfort" mode are enabled. The "Individual" transmission mode enables drivers to adjust the various parameters – from the steering and powertrain to the suspension – to suit their own requirements. In addition, drivers can use the "M" button for switching straight into manual mode, enabling gear changing using the steering wheel gearshift paddles only. More agility and dynamism are provided by the “Sport” drive program, whose features include sporty, taut suspension tuning and modified shift points. The sporty attributes can be enhanced even further in "Sport+" driving mode. In this case, the suspension and drive system are even more dynamically tuned. The ECO Start/Stop function and gliding mode are deactivated in both programs. The "RACE" drive program is configured for racetrack performance. It impresses with optimum sportiness in terms of response time, engine speed and shift times. The "Individual" transmission mode enables drivers to adjust the various parameters – from the steering and powertrain to the suspension – to suit their own requirements.

The design of the side bolsters on the seat and back rest of the optional AMG performance seats allow them to provide even better lateral stability, with a look that gives your interior a uniquely sporty character. They offer: - Best possible lateral stability for dynamic driving, optimal adaptability to the driver with adjustable side bolsters. - Pneumatically adjustable side bolsters in seat cushions (only in the driver’s seat) and back rests (only in conjunction with leather optional). - Seat cushion height adjustment for comfortable thigh position, a steeper seat angle provides leg support. - AMG badges in the back rests and an AMG coat of arms stamped into the head rests.

4.0-Litre V8 Biturbo Engine

The 4.0-Litre V8 engine from Mercedes-AMG impresses with explosive power delivery combined with very finely controllable power output. The twin-scroll turbochargers are positioned between the cylinder heads ("hot inside V") for better response. Cylinder shut-off under partial load ensures even greater efficiency. 

In the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ this engine takes peak performance to a new level at 450 kW (612 hp). Maximum torque attains a new best value of 850 Nm. With such an immense power, the vehicle accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds from a standstill and reaches a governed top speed of 250 km/h (with AMG Driver's package: 300 km/h).

In the Mercedes-AMG E 63 4MATIC+ this engine develops 420 kW (571 hp) and 750 Nm of torque. With such an immense power, the vehicle accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds from a standstill and reaches a governed top speed of 250 km/h (with AMG Driver's package: 300 km/h).

3.0-LITRE 6-CYLINDER IN-LINE TURBO ENGINE with electric auxiliary compressor

Continuous development has been one of the main driving forces behind Mercedes-AMG for more than 50 years. We don’t rest on our laurels. We always want to go one step further. One symbol of this is our new engine in the Mercedes-AMG 53 series. A 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder turbo engine with an output of 320 kW (435 hp). Additional performance comes courtesy of 48-volt electrification and the integrated starter-alternator with an output of up to 16 kW. Transmission

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G

With nine gears as well as RACE START and double-clutching functions, this transmission allows extremely dynamic acceleration and ultra-short shift times as well as a fuel-saving driving style. The systematic further development of hardware and software has made it possible to further optimize the reaction times. This means that the driver's shift commands can be carried out faster than ever before. Gearshift operations are executed with no interruption in tractive power. Ultra-fast, responsive multiple downshifts are another forte of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G. The driver can change via kickdown directly from 9th into 5th or from 6th into 2nd gear, for example. The RACE START function supports optimal acceleration from rest or from the starting line in motorsport events.

The new 3.0-litre in-line engine is coupled with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, which impresses with extremely short shift times, fast response to shift paddle commands, a double-declutching function and multiple downshifts. Suspension

AMG Sports Suspension Based On AIR BODY CONTROL

The multi-chamber air suspension system works in unison with a sporty, AMG-specific spring/damper setup and continuously adjustable damping to ensure a very high standard of ride comfort and driving dynamics. The damping at each wheel is adapted to the current driving situation and road surface condition. This is done rapidly and precisely using separate valves for the compression and rebound of the dampers. A harder spring rate, for example when cornering and braking, effectively reduces rolling movements.

With the settings "Comfort," "Sport" and "Sport+," the multi-chamber air suspension system can be given a more comfortable, sporty or very sporty setup. Thanks to the pneumatic all-round self-leveling suspension, the vehicle maintains a constant level irrespective of the load. The suspension level can be raised to increase ground clearance. At high speeds the suspension is automatically lowered, helping to reduce aerodynamic drag and further improve handling stability.

AMG Rear Axle Locking Differential

The electronically controlled AMG limited-slip differential on the rear axle provides improved traction in every driving situation, especially when the driver adopts a sporty driving style. This is done by reducing the slip on the inside driven wheel. It offers all the advantages of a mechanical differential lock, yet provides even more agility and greater driving pleasure. Beyond this, it also provides increased driving stability in slaloms or when changing lane at high speed. It proves its worth in a wide range of different road conditions, including in difficult environmental situations or weather conditions such as snowfall.

Features of the AMG electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential:

Electrically controlled multi-disc limited-slip differential, adjustment is by means of an electric motor.

Two control units are used to control the differential, the adjustment request comes from the driving dynamics controller.

AMG Rear Axle Locking Differential

The mechanically controlled AMG rear-axle limited-slip differential provides improved traction in every driving situation, especially when the driver adopts a sporty driving style. This is done by reducing the slip on the inside driven wheel. In contrast to a conventional differential, this differential uses multi-disc clutches and two thrust rings. When drive torque is applied to the rear axle, the thrust rings operate the multi-disc clutch to suit the requirements. The clutch redistributes the drive torque to the wheel with the better traction and spinning of the inside wheel is prevented.

Large, internally ventilated and perforated brake disks all-round provide for excellent deceleration. The composite design improves resistance to fading even under extreme conditions and reduces unsprung masses on the wheel.
