The systematic implementation of AMG's Lightweight Performance construction strategy also contributes to the vehicle's dynamic performance and modest fuel consumption. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h is over in a blistering 3.5 seconds, quicker than any other performance luxury sedan.

Despite the explosive power delivery of the 4.0 liter V8 biturbo engine, which features Mercedes-AMG cylinder deactivation technology, it can still be very finely dosed. Producing 450 kW (612 hp) and 900 Nm of torque, it exceeds the output of the previous model by exactly 20 kW (27 hp).

The twin-scroll turbochargers are placed between the cylinder heads for a better response ("hot inside V"). Deactivating cylinders when the engine is under partial load results in greater fuel economy.

Thanks to the fully variable torque distribution system, the driver benefits equally from the advantages offered by both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. An electronically controlled clutch variably connects the permanently driven rear axle with the front axle. The optimum torque distribution is continually computed according to the current driving conditions and the driver's wishes.

The AMG S 63 4MATIC+ is equipped with AMG's AIRMATIC sports suspension with adaptive damping. The driver has the choice between "Comfort" and "Sport" settings that accommodate everything from relaxed long-distance comfort to dynamic sports performance.

Rebound and compression stages are adjusted independent of one another in order to optimize the settings for the driving conditions and road surface. The freely programmable response characteristics allow for a large spread between minimum and maximum damping force.

AMG's electromechanical sports parameter steering system with its variable steering ratio is a perfect complement: It substantially improves vehicle handling and agility.
